Hi,

I was tempted to buy a new mega-pixel digital camera, like 3-4mega pixals after my friend showed his SLR and the print-outs ordered from Cannons web site.

After upgrading, in typical fashion I find: Toys are us are offereing a 6.6 mega pixel fixed-focus camera at £80 which is amazing for the uK. But, I don't want fixed focus in my next camera.

What I was thinking about was 4 megapixels with 3x optical zoom at around £270 normally.

B, but I decided to upgrade my Fujifilm DX-10 (850,000 pixels) to 64Mb smartmedia + usb card reader and 2.3 Ah NiM hydride batts. So now I can take around 200 pics at max resolution and hopefully don't have to recharge too often. Plus I can download the pics real quick to the PC. This upgrade cost £50. For US$ x1.4

So now I have a very easy to use, cheap camera able to take many photos to easily upload to the web etc.

these days photo industry seems try to split professional cameras from point and shot ones by stopping development of half professional models:-\ so now if you wish to get more manual controls you have to go for expensive models Sad I was lucky to buy Minolta Dimage F200 before it was discontinued. It have all features you've mentioned and it has mnaul controls in addition.
I've checked for Fujifilm DX-10 specification and it seems like a perfect camera for it's time, if I had such camera I would probably not buy my Minolta till that day, just do same thing as you did with buying better battaries and more memory.
BTW Why don't you post some of your photos on our digital board? maybe some from the place you live in?

I love my Olympus C-700 camera. There are several different models and all are wonderful.

Denis, I have brought my camera to work today. I will take it with me if I leave for lunch today. I will go to the national zoo and see if I can get close to the Pandas. If not, I will take other pictures. Maybe even some cicada. We are being invaded by them right now. There are literally millions of them.

I am sure I posted a link sometime from somewhere on these forums. Anyway some pics are here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.wilkes/ under the heading "Local Area Pics". I just noticed however that the Wokingham pics are too dark. I think I should repost and get rid of the watermarks.

Since you asked so nicely and have been so patient, here are my pictures.

Please ignore the bad webpage. The pictures are ok, and most have not been optimized for the web.

Hi folks.

I planned to post my pics from a local park which is very nice. I ran there as part of my exercise routine, the incentive being to take some pics of the wild life but I forgot to insert the memory card! Maybe on Sunday I can remember and the weather will be OK. There are Geese, goslings and water foul etc.

Plus, in August I am touring Eastern Europe via coach so I can hopefully capture some interesting stuff out there.

Hello Hope,
what an unusual and beautiful collection of pictures....... Smiley  (bad webpage).  To have the Pentagon one also is unique. I especially like the Catskill Mountains.....and the Crew Team must have been out of bed before you were!!! Grin
The Zoo ones are great, they are mainly head on and can see the expressions on the faces - great pictures....
Loved the Lunar Lander........

Sue,

I am glad that you enjoyed the pictures. These pictures were all taken over the last year and a half. I dug out the best of them. There were many that were not as nice.

The Catskills are beautiful, There was a nice fog over the hills and made for a nice view. I actually took those last year on my way to and from the IMC 2003 Conference in Montreal.

The Crew teams are out there at 6 am each day. They were actually on their way back when I saw them. I don't know that they get up  before me, but they sure get started on the day before I do.

I was here in September 2001, so there was so emotion behind taking the picture of the flag that was draped over the Pentagon. My son thought he needed to be in that pictures. LOL Kids are amazing.

The zoo pictures were actually taken last week. The light was perfect that day for taking pictures, so it made life easier. I absolutely love the zoo and can spend hours on end in there.

My son is a "ham" and loves to be in front of a camera. It isn't so much that he was happy, but it is that there was a camera. Smiley However, he is a happy kid and loves doing the sightseeing thing with his Mom.

Hope,

I also have an Olympus C-700 and just love it.  I'm not a photographer but do well enough with it.  Your photos from the Zoo are outstanding.  Especially the Pandas!  Do you notice that indoor photos are never as clear as the outdoor ones with the camera?  Huh

it is a lighting issue. If there is too much light or not enough light it looks like crap. The zoo photos has just the right amount of light. I was very pleased with the results. I was very lucky. I must admit, I did a bit of touch up on the zoo photos. The turtoise had to be lightened up because of a shadow. The pandas required a bit of work also. I think the camel only got cropped. The rest had some touch ups. It is amazing what you can accomplish with Photoshop.
