One of my friends is always asking me how to restore lost files, connect to ADSL, fix home appliance etc. How to burn CDROM many times. Basically, this guy expects everyone to help him for free even though he has too much money and not enough brain. Has anyone else got a friend like this?

I know a lot of such people Tongue but most of them offer me something to show appreciation although I take only beer or prefer not take anything, it's better that they would have "owe" me something and I can ask them for favour later than take money, don't you think so? Grin

Andy, my family is like this and so are two of my best friends. It is amusing at time and annoying at other times.

I think we have a common experience here. I think these people do pay you back in some ways. It just seems they are always trying to get so many things for free off everybody but at the end of the day it is nice to feel they owe you more than you gave out.

These people are good when you don't have too much to do so you can chat on your favourite subjects but they are a nightmare when you are busy.

Well, I have to have my say here on this, because there are plenty of them around..Roll Eyes
There are many people in this world who just love to think they are getting something for nothing.   They have a chip (or could be half a forest) on their shoulder that the world owes them something....they seem to be born like that too.  98% of them as well, I have found to be extremely self centred and self wrapped, not getting out the box they are so tightly wrapped in to see another view - point they don't ever see themselves as others see them, and therefore wouldn't even contemplate changing, usually ego-centric or of low self esteem or maybe inhibited (I mean across the board).  They seem to automatically gravitate to people who are exactly opposite  in character.

For what that was worth Tongue Roll Eyes   Grin

For the most part my family is pretty computer savvy. The only thing I'm ever requested to do is update a website or reinstall/fix our networking software.

Ok, here is a true story.

I used to work for a Forclosure Listing Company. I did Internet Tech Support. When someone had trouble getting into the Members Only sections of the site, I would help them get logged in.

One day I  got a call stating that they couldn't get into the site. After talking for a few minutes, I realized this person shouldn't be online. They said they were using the library computer. Ok, no problem. I told them to move to use the mouse to open Internet Explorer. This guy said "What is a mouse?" Ok, I can handle this. then he said that the TV kept going blank. After another few minutes I ask him if he would prefer to be switched to the printed version of the program that could be mailed each month. Thankfully he said "Yes!!! Oh, please can I."

I was kind to the IT support staff today. My Word 2000 erased all the menus and taskbars. Right clicking everywhere and rebooting failed to get it back. I searched out the solution on the web because I didn't want the inconvenience of a new software install.
