That's great. I was looking for a nice, free alternative to Microsoft GIF animator (Which I find to be rather annoying to use.) Thanks for the recommendation, this will come in handy.

I use Microsoft Paint for simple tasks.  I also use GIMP on my laptop running SuSe Linux 10 for some of the more complicated tasks I need to accomplish.

I've been using graphics programs for years and must agree that some of these programs have a steep learning curve. I use Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop. I prefer Corel because it seems to be more powerful and easier to use once you have overcome the initial learning curve. Also it creates smaller image sizes when compressing. Well at least that has been my experience.

For what it's worth you can get some Adobe Tutorials at:

One reason may be because the new OS's may not support the one you are using. Example Jasc Animation shop 3.0 that comes with Paint Shop Pro 8.0 will not work with Vista but Jasc Animation shop 3.0 that comes with Paint Shop Pro 7.04 works with Vista but Paint Shop Pro 7.4 does not. It seems if you want Paint Shop Pro you will need to either combine to versions or upgrade to the new version and spend the money making GIMP more valuable.

The free Paint.net should work under Vista. It probably has all the power 99% of people need without the complexity of other graphics software.

From what I know there is port Pain.net under Linux, if you interested check here.

Also I've just found that there is small competitor to Photoshop product available on the market it's called Pixel and unlike Adobe's product it's multi-platform from beginning, there is public beta available for testing: http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/
I've tried it under Linux and it seems to be stable enough for work, it have more common interface for people who get used to PhotoShop.
