It reminds me of ASCII art, although I'll have to admit... This is better than most, if not all of the ASCII I have ever seen.

That is absolutely awesome - thanks!  I may have to try that last link's download and play with this - looks like fun!

Question - how do you get that type of picture onto a web page like that? This is just so neat!  I looked at the source code and about fell off my chair!  Huh

I've just tried the same thing.
I've also just tried highlighting the page to see what it looks like without the colour.

I know it's possible to do again, but it would be incredibly time consuming... I'm not sure how long it took to make that alien, but I'm sure it wasn't easy.

IMHO one who do this alien picture done good job, first of all he choose good picture for this purpose, secondary it has only two major colors black and white and some gray shades I guess, also there is no any small details and background which would make pciture looking busy... so try to find picture meeting all these factors mentioned above... (actually I've try to do same thing with my cat but her whiskers  ruin all picture Tongue ) I think that once you manage to meet all these factors you'll only need to find according settings and you almost got this Alien Wink BTW ASCII converter which could be found under link provided by 12Noon is doing pretty good job. Thanks 12noon! I've some converters before but none of them was so good.

Today when I exploring Knoppix, I've come accross something called BB Demo which show abilities of ASCII graphic abilities. it's look pretty impressive.
There is also instruction on how to prepeare image before conversion in order to get better ASCII picture, check it here: http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/tune/
