yw has just launched their own beta se.  yw still has all their meta features, plus newly added se options, but has added their own fully featured spider indexed driven se.  please read the about us page on our site and visit our submit a site page.

for more information visit: http://www.yurweb.com/se.htm

cheers!   Smiley

thanks for informing us. what about spidering scheme? can you give us some insight how it's build and how frequently you respidering sites and updating your database. Also does it connected in some way with metaseach and influence on ranking of particular links which appear(or vica versa) in your database?

BTW I know that this question was raised before but I think that I didn't take part in discussion but wish to say as well that I don't really like name... but if you wish to keep it maybe you could at least explain what does it mean so it would be easier for people to remember.

hello phoenix,

we spider all new websites submitted so that would be every day just about.  the index is updated every day to reflect the voting and relevance points as well.  the search engine index is separate and apart from the metasearch engine.  however our yw search engine is listed on the metasearch page as an option.

our name, the one you don't like  Huh, stands for Your Web -- www.yurweb.com.

sorry you don't care for the name but I hope you like the search.

cheers!

ok so you don't plan to mix results from meta and your engine?
as for yurweb I don't see it as your web as if I would like to say your web I would use urweb Wink but it could be just me. from yur I start to assume that this name was in honor of developer or something Yuriy (it's Russian name, but since such name isn't used too widely in Europe and US I think that you don't have much problems because of this).
By the way have you thought about making logo not just YW but writing YourWeb?
Also please check your main page in the Mozilla, you'll see that Galaxy and Looksmart don't have checkbox on the same line.
Also would you consider placing our directory http://www.pharos-search.com on the list of directories to search from? soon it will be updated to new script Links SQL and will become human edited.

Hey Phoenix,

Thanks for heads up on the Mozilla deal, fixed.  We'll think about the name thing and your link as well next time we update our page of search engine options.

Cheers!

Hi kohsis, thanks for the update. I also wanted to say congrats on good luck with your beta search engine!

I just researched "art", which resulted in several, relevant quality links. Good job here! What I wanted to suggest is that you have these links open in an external window. This is so we (the users) can easily go back to the results later and look at all the other sites listed in the se.

I also think you should explain the voting procedure on the results page. I was clicking 'vote' without even realizing why, curious to see what happens. Maybe you should have a link (question mark) next to the vote button that opens into a pop-up explaining what happens when one votes? That would be helpful, IMO.

That's about it for now. I know you didn't ask for a review, so I will keep it short- Just wanted to let you know my thoughts.

P.S. I like the name YurWeb/yw- Phoenix is just a weirdo :p

Hi kohsis, it wasn't a matter of "missing it", because I read the about page afterwards.

Since you didn't quite understand my statement, I'll be a little more blunt. It's not very wise to explain all aspects of your user interface on the about page. Your se should be geared towards all users, including the less knowledgeable ones. It is unfair to assume that one will click the about page for answers.

Isn't this what yurweb is about? A search engine for you, for everyone?
If that is the case, I believe you should listen to my suggestion.

Perhaps a FAQ would be more suitable for these types of issues? I still think that you should explain each unique item when necessary.

This is just my opinion, even though I believe it should be valued to some extent. I'm the average user, I have average needs. I know I'm not the only one that might have questioned this methods.

Kohsis,

After I submit a site, the next page takes me to the meta search engine page. Do you really want to do this?

Also, I would like to help you grow your database of sites (especially in archaeology). Is there any way I can send you the information, or should I just submit them at the site, one by one?
