Sign up with ad networks; what are the consequences?  I plan to sign up with a couple of ad networks, but I am wondering if it could create any problem in the future.  For example, I display some random text ad supplied by an ad network and what if the ad generated is the same advertiser as the one I directly contacted and signed up for a contract?  What if I just want to quit after I try out for a couple of months?  Can I do that easily?  No penalty?  I'd like to know what possible problems I could have if I decide to sign up with ad networks.

you might have problems with google and other search engines. The reason fro that is that they will think that you are a link farm.

whiteRabbit,

your post suggests to me that you have a lot of traffic and expect to host almost any ads to get some income.

The fact is that people will not convert to sales unless they are targeted via your website.  So forget random ads and concentrate on ads relevant to your site visitors. I wish I could show you how much money you can make via tageted ads off low numbers of people but I can't, only I can hope common sense prevails and you can focus ads to your site visitors.

Well said, Andy!

Whiterabbit - he's so right - please consider what he said.  When I first started with a Web site I did this and and was very, very sorry.  I had random ads all over the place, joined more affiliate programs than I could keep track of and wound up with a messy Web site, a heck of a headache and complaints about all the ads on my site - and very, very little revenue.  It's just not worth the hassle, really.
