Author Topic: Question about my parody site...  (Read 3139 times)

Hi,

I have a parody site at http://www.tvscreentraffic.com
and I've debated whether it would be better to
have a tell-a-friend script or to leave the tell-a-friend
script off (which I do now).

The reason I would leave it off is that I've noticed that
many humor sites seem to do quite well at generating
traffic by word-of-mouth without tell-a-friend scripts
and I started to suspect that maybe humor sites
maybe go more viral if the viewers are left to
tell others on their own (i.e., it's their decision).

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

hi Mark, and sorry for delay on reply...
and now I should kill you Grin you know why? because you trick me Wink , I've didn't examine your site deeply and thought that it's just another one of those countless small traffic exchange sites... I even doesn't wish to read it since I've waste too much time on reading them in the past...  Tongue
so I've spend nice amount of time trying to explain you that your site will not work and such...  Roll Eyes but later I decide to check it and maybe give more comments regarding site and check if it's really don't have referral program already, and was shocked when realize that it's really joke site and not an traffic exchange Shocked I thought whnever to put what I wrote or not but to give some fun to people here is my message to you:
Quote
first of all you're dealing in different industry than humor sites... and something which is work for them wouldn't work for you... If say truth I don't see the way that many people would register with your traffic exchange there is few reason for this:
- it's not designed well
- it doesn't have something unique which make e.g. me or someone else choose it and not something like clickthru or webmasterquest or some other well know traffic exchanges.
- these two previous reason would make me think that your site provide traffic exchange for low quality sites which isn't sounding appealing for me...
so obviously the only folks who would use your site would be newbies on the internet who spot it before other sites...
anyway traffic exchanges prove to give low quality traffic so many people stop using them from what I know...  so IMHO you should create something unique to make your site work as it should or maybe evolve it into some other project... don't really sure.
returning to your question, if you simply wish to get more traffic or sign-ups on it you should try referral program, which IMHO work a bit... and maybe could bring you some extra members(but I really not sure about this).
Sorry for such feedback, it doesn't intend to harm you in any way, but to help you save your time and determine if you really wish to develop this web site rather than switch yourself to some other project. Anyway we'll try to help you best way we can whatever option you'll choose.
and now when I know that it's really humor site I should say that you should have something on the bottom like send this page to friend as maybe it's really could work(personally I usually send ICQ or mail message when find some interesting page or joke, but I send personalized message so I don't know whenever tell-a-friend is a good thing).  but anyway wait to hear what other folks think maybe they use this feature on sites.
anyway you teach me one thing, I should take a deep look to site even if it's pretty obvious that this site is about Grin

I would use the tell-a-friend service. I will tell you from personal experience I much prefer the script over doing it manually. It's a bigger pain to compose an e-mail, add all the addresses, and then tell people about the joke.

It's quite simple... I find it much more convenient to use a tell-a-friend script when I want others to know about a humour site I found.

Thanks guys,

Sounds like the tell-a-friend script is the best idea.
And yes, traffic-exchanges are generally very
silly.  Cool

I would go with the script, too - never know when you'll "plant a seed" by having it on the site!
