Village of 100

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following.

There would be:

57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south
8 would be Africans
52 would be female
48 would be male
70 would be non-white
30 would be white
70 would be non-Christian
30 would be Christian
89 would be heterosexual
11 would be homosexual
6 people would be would be from the United States
and would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth.
80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
50 would suffer from malnutrition
1 would be near death
1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 (yes, only 1) would own computerWhen one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare, even in the United States.
If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you can read this message, you have just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

As you read this and are reminded how life is in the rest of the world, remember just how blessed we really are!

BTW if you take all the percentages away from the fact that i'm European, male, white, christian & heterosexual. Then i'd almost not exist !

Also some member post there original source of this text, it's appear that it was a chain letter sended few years ago... and later was modified and updated by people, here this original letter:
If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like this:

60 Asians
12 Europeans
15 from the Western Hemisphere (9 Latin Americans, 5 North Americans, and 1 Oceanian)
13 Africans

50 would be male

80 would be non-white
20 would be white

Source: U.S. Bureau of the Census International Data Base, Table 001 : Total Midyear Population 2001, assuming the populations of South America, Asia, and Africa are "non-white" and those of North America, Europe, and Oceania are "white."

67 would be non-Christian
33 would be Christian

Source: Britannica Book of the Year 1999, "Religious Population of the World, 1998," reprinted at infoplease.com , using numbers from the "Christians" heading only for the Christian percentage.

20 people would earn 89% of the entire world's wealth

Source: The International Herald Tribune, February 5, 1999, cited in the World Income Inequality table .

25 would live in substandard housing

Source: Habitat for Humanity International, "Why Habitat is Needed ."

17 would be unable to read

Source: UNICEF, "The State of the World's Children 1999 ."

13 would suffer from malnutrition

Source: UN Food and Agriculture Organization report, cited at OBGYN.net .

1 would die within the year
2 would give birth within the year

Source: U.S. Census Bureau, World Vital Events Per Time Unit 2001 .

2 would have a college education

Source: UNESCO Institute for Statistics, World Education Indicators, Gross Enrollment Ratio by Sex .

4 would own a computer

Source: UN Human Development Indicators, "Access to Information and Communications 1995 ."

Please note: In our research, we were unable to find a consensus on the ratio of hetersexual to homosexual people in the world and subsequently omitted that statistic.

Research by Rekha Balu, Christine Engelken, and Jennifer Grosso.

maybe that's because you live in such community or they are hiding their sexual prefernces? personally I don't know any as well but I have friend as ISP and when I come to his work to drink some beer and he checking logs of what people are visiting there are bunch of links to gay sites... so if there are no gays and no clubs for them in our city and it seems that they doesn't live here, who would go to such sites Huh

Nope, don't know anyone who is gay, either.  I do know of a guy I went to school with who has a daughter who went to school with one of my nieces and if rumor is anything to depend on, I"m told this daughter of my old classmate is gay, but that's as close as I can come to knowing anyone.  Gosh, aren't you all glad I shared that useless info!?!   Grin

See it's hard to answer a question like that when it might depend on place, personality, and coincidence (That you happen upon a homosexual during your daily activities and meetings)

I just think that statistics on sexual preference can't always be trusted because homosexuals generally tend to congregate in certain areas.

There were many, many gays in South Tampa when I lived there. However, since I've moved out to Zephyrhills, only on seldom occassions will I pass by someone who might be gay.
