I was just this weekend started messing with a bit of script and thought i'd post it here and see if anyone thinks it's worth making better.

BTW i'm not sure if sendmail is working.

If someone would like to test it out and add a search engine or directory, i'd welcome the feedback.

Thanks.

personally I would not advice you to create another Top site for PPC engines(since usual search engines at least major ones wouldn't be interested in this). there are already few top sites major and smaller ones which provide such service and I really don't sure that bigger PPC would be interested in putting another button or code to thier site(of course I could be wrong) so you'll deal with smaller ones which isn't really good investment IMHO.
also top site is probably obsolete thing since it's abused too much and not give relevant results usually. Of course you can try and find some script which rank sites not by clicks but impressions provided to button, I believe that this is better way for ranking.

Hmmm, good point. I was only messing anyway.
The thing is that i've got 100MB of webspace with PHP and CGI, but without MYSQL. My ISP gave it to me, but i've no idea what to do with it. All i use it for at the moment is hosting the odd picture or two.
Have you got any idea what i could use this webspace for ?
I thought i might install a small directory. I've even uploaded a little script, but can't get it to work.

Oh well, back to the drawing board !

You could also host images for other people.
I'm not sure what all is involved, but it's an idea (And probably just that...)

Yep, don't you just love webshots?

But I wonder how long it took them to program their system? I mean, there's a bit involved... Members, submissions, hosting, searches, guestbooks, automic image resampling and compression... Huh

There's also a different type of image hosting... Where people actually host images for virtual community type things. Like this site: http://www.3dhost.net/

I don't think that would be nearly as difficult.

hmm don't sure maybe if I ever learn PHP I should start my own site similar to webhosts... as I love idea of such site... I think same thing could be done on CGI But actually 100 mb isn't so much for site as webshots, and it also will consume hughe amounts of traffic Undecided

I've scrapped the idea. I'll just use the space to host pictures for when i want to post some on a forum such as this.

That works.

I never have actually had that problem because I create new images monthly, so there will always be a need for space.

Oh yes, you can also use your service to host images for your auctions too. It's much more convenient than using some of these other auction image hosts, and eBay charges for extra images.
